A Modern Day Psalm

Why, Lord do you wait
Why do you let your enemies seem triumphant
Why, O my God, do you save your words of power for another day
While our tears flow and our hearts ache?
What must we do to change your mind? What more can we say?
What praises have we not already uttered in song and speech?
What day has passed that we have not called on you,
Declared our dependence on you?

If we were delivered yesterday or if we are delivered tomorrow
You get the glory either way,
So what good comes from making the orphan wait for her deliverer to come?

You say you are the Father to the fatherless
You have proven in the past that your compassion is great
And your mercies are new every morning
I know if I feel compassion or long for justice
That it only comes from You.
But what I do not understand is how,
If your compassion is this intense, this full,
How is it that you do not move this mountain now?
How can a heart this passionate and this ready to rescue
Not act now?

But I trust in you, my God.
For nothing good is in me unless it comes from you.
And my longing for this orphan is good and right.
I am finite, lacking in every way. Powerless to change these circumstances
Except for you.
I surrender and trust though I can not understand,
Though I do not see your hand coming to save.

So come, Lord Jesus, speak your words of comfort while we wait
Care for our daughter, speak to her heart. Convince her she is not alone.
And when you choose to show your victory
We will lift a banner up in your name
Saying, "Our God did this! He rescues. He saves."
We will bless our daughters in your name
And they will love you. They will serve you.
They will know you rescued them because you delight in them.
They will hear every day, "Our God is mighty to save!"

You have heard us, but we will say it again everyday
Until we see the victory with our own eyes.
Move, Lord Jesus, in your compassion, by your power,
Rescue this orphan, this day.

You absolutely read my mind today (but of course you said it MUCH more eloquently)! I advocate for a little boy in Eastern Europe who needs a family. Found out today that he has been transferred to an institution where he could be bedridden for the rest of his life...but God holds his life in HIS hands. Thank you for your wise, timely words. Hi Cindy,
I visit you blog and this is the first time I'm leaving a comment. This post brings tears to my eyes. I also read your post on the Cry for Justice and I want you to know that my heart is aching in the same way.

Just as we completed our homestudy we had a huge mountain placed before us that has left us to put our plans on hold. I pray daily for the faces of these precious children I've seen wondering if one of them is meant to be mine. I cry out to the Lord wondering why He would lead us down what seems to be a dead end road.

At times I feel at peace knowing that God is ultimately in control of every detail and His timing is not ours. But then I think that some things are time sensitive and I question why.

I understand your pain and I can truly feel it from where I sit so I will pray that the Lord moves this mountain and clears the path so that you may bring your precious daughter home.

In Christ

Pray fervently and unabashedly, without doubting, that God has already answered your prayer! May God bless you and keep you always.
